CASL’s Legal Services partners with Chicago Volunteer Legal Services (CVLS) and volunteer attorneys and volunteer interpreters to provide legal assistance to clients on a range of issues. Eligibility for legal services is based on household income and residency. CASL’s Legal Services can help on a variety of matters, including:
CASL Legal Services is seeking volunteer Mandarin and Cantonese interpreters and translators. This is a remote opportunity. The majority of clients who come to our legal clinic primarily speak Mandarin or Cantonese and have limited English proficiency. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our operations are mostly remote. Client intake and consultations are completed over the phone. We are in need of volunteers who can provide over-the-phone interpreting services. We are also in need of volunteers who can assist with translating community outreach materials from English to Chinese. Duties include:
This is a unique volunteer opportunity for law students. Law students who volunteer as Chinese-English interpreters/translators get to work under the supervision and mentorship of an attorney. This is an excellent opportunity for students to develop their skills and gain exposure to the practice of law.
CASL Legal Services is seeking volunteer attorneys. As an attorney, you have the skills to improve and empower the lives of those in need. CASL Legal Services offers volunteer opportunities for attorneys who share our vision of access to justice for all. Our program allows for varying levels of time commitment. We welcome attorneys at all stages of their career, whether you are starting in your practice or looking for ways to give back during your retirement. Some of the skills we need from our volunteers include client interviewing and counseling, legal research and writing, negotiation, drafting pleadings, and litigation.
CASL Legal Services thanks all of its volunteers. Together we can meet the need for access to justice.
