Thy Nguyen is CASL’s Vice President of Community Impact. Born in Vietnam, Thy immigrated to the United States with his family and grew up in a small town in eastern Iowa.

Thy brings a wealth of experience, with a career spanning over 20 years in higher education, including leadership in various areas, including workforce development, student life, career development, and student retention. Thy’s most recent role was as the inaugural executive director for the Center for Life Success at Mary Baldwin University in Virginia. Thy has also had significant leadership roles at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, the University of Illinois at Chicago, and various roles at Northwestern University.

Thy’s outside professional activities included previous board membership at the Vietnamese Association of Illinois and a co-chair for Chicago area career services directors for America’s Urban Campus. Thy’s involvement in an advisory task force with the National Association of Colleges and Employers and his presentations at numerous national and regional conferences
further demonstrate his commitment to learning and sharing knowledge.

Thy’s academic journey includes a Bachelors Degree in Communications and Public Relations from the University of Northern Iowa, followed by a Masters Degree in Postsecondary Education and Student Affairs. Thy also earned a Certificate in Learning and Organizational Change from Northwestern University. Thy has called Chicago home for over 20 years, where he resides with his wife, Rebekah, and their three children, Mai, Lynnox, and Khai. In his spare time, Thy enjoys the occasional round of golf and spending time with family and friends.
